Palace of the Governors

Explore Santa Fe and New Mexico's rich history at the Palace of the Governors, the oldest continuously used government building in the United States. Built in 1610, the Palace of the Governors was home to 60 state governors. It was also a home of refuge for Spanish colonists waiting out the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. Currently, the Palace of the Governors is the History Museum of New Mexico, where you can find Spanish and Indian artifacts, a portrait gallery of those who shaped Santa Fe, a chapel, and a courtyard housing historic wagons. If walls could talk, the Palace of the Governors would have quite a story to share.

The Palace of the Governors is located directly across from the downtown plaza. After enjoying the rich history of this New Mexico Museum, Santa Fe visitors can stroll the portal where artisans with tribal enrollment sell jewelry and art. The artists are part of the Portal Program, in which 1200 members representing almost every New Mexico tribe draw lots for 76 spaces everyday. Be apart of Santa Fe and New Mexico at the Palace of the Governors.
